Boat on the Mura

Bridge on the Mura

The boat on the Mura River is a cultural monument of a special kind, as it has been preserved as a means of transport for many years.

Ship's history

It has been here for over 150 years. Until 1922, crossing the river was only possible by ferry. It was used by the landowners for transporting timber and crops. As it became a border crossing in 1919, Before Slovenia's EU accession, there was also a customs office in the building by the port.. Unfortunately, the original ferry suffered wartime damage, as it was blown up by the Germans at the end of the war in 1945. Thus, seven years later, only one ferry operated across the river. Due to increasing demand, a new ferry was built between 1948 and 1950, which we modernised in 2000.
